frequently asked questions

We know that there can be a lot of questions involved when you consider window tinting or paint protective film for your vehicle. In an effort to help you feel as educated and confident in your decision as possible, we've put together a FAQ section to hopefully answer some of the great questions we hear a lot!

Great question. No one wants to feel like they’re living under a rock! The answer is that it doesn’t have to. Some products do make your room noticeably darker than it is now, which may be exactly what is needed in some applications. However, there are such a wide variety of films available, it would be easy to find one that is exactly suited to your specific needs, including one product that is virtually unnoticeable but still very effective.

First of all – don’t worry! It is very common to notice some tiny “bubbles” on your window anywhere from a few days to a few weeks after the application of a window film.  What you’re seeing is the water used to apply the film collecting in spots.  Depending on the outside temperature, humidity, landscape features such as trees, the direction your windows face and how much sun is on your windows every day, this water can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months to disappear. Left to itself, it will evaporate and leave your window film smooth and blemish free. If after 6 weeks you see any “bubbles” larger than say, a Tic Tac, give us a call and we’ll see if there’s any cause for concern.

Please note that under window film takes 4-6 weeks to cure.

In a word – yes! Window film is quite durable and can be cleaned with water or any of your usual window cleaning products. However, we do have a word of caution – always wait at least one month after your film was applied to clean your windows. While it is quite secure immediately after application, the film does need some time to cure depending on temperature, humidity, sun exposure etc. Once it’s cured, the only thing you need to remember is: don’t scrub your windows with anything abrasive! Use a cloth and remember to tell your window cleaning company (if you use one) that the windows have film on them so they don’t scrub with anything hard. Sundown Solar makes an excellent cloth that cleans without streaking using only water – send us a message if you’d like one!
